Comicpalooza

Published by Wayne on

I’ve got some big news to share today. Like last year, I will be attending Comicpalooza. But unlike last year, this time it will be a bit different.  Not only will Grey Gecko’s presence be increased, they’re moving from Artist Alley to a major booth location in the Dealer Room, but many of their authors will be participating on panels throughout the Con. And that includes yours truly.

What will I be paneling on you wonder? Right now I’ll be on two panels and moderating two panels (one of which I will also be on).

Lasers, Lightspeed, and Little Green Men – Oh Dear!

Focusing on the science fiction genre, a panel of authors talk about how they create entire galaxies of worlds, dotting the page as the sky is dotted with stars. Learn about the ins and out of writing in the science fiction genre, and ask them where they draw their inspiration to boldly go where no writer has gone before. With Kevin J. Anderson, Rebecca Moesta, and Wayne Basta.

Working in a Galaxy Far, Far Away

Kevin J. Anderson, Alan Dean Foster and Rebecca Moesta discuss their approaches and experiences in the Star Wars Universe. Both have vast experience in writing for the universe created by George Lucas, and some would even say the two understand the worlds, the races, and the technology of the series as well as the creator himself. Clearly, the two love the world of Star Wars. Also joining us are Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and Jett Lucas (a padawan in Attack of the Clones), offering their insight into working in the world of Star Wars as actors. Come ask questions about their experiences on working on the light and dark sides of the Force.

Wayne Basta to moderate.

Emerging Sci-Fi, Supernatural, and Fantasy Authors Round Table

Emerging authors and the genres emerging voices gather to speak about their common influences, current projects, and the trends that are shaping the future. Come have a talk with our panelists as they have a round table discussion, much like friends over coffee, about the life and times of a new and emerging author.

So not only do I get to be on a few panels to talk about writing in science fiction but I get to do it with Kevin J. Anderson! I’ve read and enjoyed a number of his books so I consider this a great opportunity. I’ll be on a panel with him and Rebecca Moesta to discuss creating sci-fi universes. And then I get to moderate a panel discussing writing in Star Wars. With the change over to Disney and the expected continuity wipe, this should be an interesting discussion.

In other news, I can tentatively announce that Tree of Liberty  will be available for sale at Comicpalooza! Its in final revision stages now but should be done in time to make it to the printer.  A Little Rebellion came out at Comicpalooza last year so it will be great to have the final book out this year.

Speaking of A Little Rebellion, work on the audiobook version has begun. We had to change to a new narrator due to some scheduling problems. And this may be a blessing in disguise. Nothing against the first narrator, Chris Ciulla, but I’m really liking the way the new guy handles the universe.

So lots of exciting things coming in the next few months.

YES!!! Kevin Anderson and Wayne Basta?! Awesome! I thought Kevin Anderson did a great job world building in his The Saga of the Seven Suns. These should be some entertaining panels!

I remember enjoying that one though never read past the first book. We listened to the audiobook version during a trip once and my wife wasn’t a big fan so I never got around to continuing the series. But I enjoyed it.

Yea the first one was one the better books in the series. I was also a fan of some of his contributions to the Dune universe. Which panel are you most excited for?

That’s hard to say. Being on a panel and getting to talk about sci-fi writing will be cool. But hearing from SW authors talking about writing in that universe will also be cool.

That sound’s awesome! Wish I could make it.
