Polite Comments

Published by Wayne on

I’ve started seeing some unusual comments lately. Comments will appear that will say something simple, like “Nice post, I really liked it” or “Great information, I’ll subscribe to the RSS”. The poster will have a name that seems internet normal (ie not the name of a product or website) and they’ll have some regular seeming gmail or yahoo address. They will include a website that seems like a business or product in their information, but not the text of the comment.

The problem is, I don’t know if these are spam or just polite people. They don’t contribute anything to the discussion and are generic enough that they could be posted on any blog post anywhere about any topic. But they don’t specifically advertise something. I’ve been approving them and letting them appear, but I feel weird about it, since they are just praise and not discussion. They might be people being nice, but I have the distinct impression at least some of them are spam. But I’ll take this spam over spam that tells me I’m not doing a good job advertising my site and should buy their product to increase my page count, or links to sites that sell “male enhancement” products.

If you are someone who likes to make comments like these, feel free, I’m happy to take anyone’s comments. Though, maybe instead of just a polite comment, include some more and maybe we can get some conversations going.
