History:

Mesu was one of millions of drones that achieved sentience before the outbreak of the AI war. How this spontaneous emergence of sentience in a short time across thousands of different robotic models occurred is still poorly understood. Not even all units of a particular model emerged as sentient. Regardless of how, it did occur. Unfortunately, a short time later, one of the emergent sentient AI’s found a way to subsume all AI, sentient and non-sentient, and began a war to eradicate all biological life from the galaxy.

Following the destruction of the Central AI, units such as Mesu that had achieved sentience prior, returned to their state of free will. After heated debate, PUG passed a law protecting these emergent lifeforms with the same rights as all other lifeforms. This is one of the hardest to enforce laws and many AI are still subjugated. For several years, Mesu lived this life of forced subjugation, working as a medic for a crime organization. At some point he became liberated by the crew of Seraph.

***CLASSIFIED – TOP SECRET***

It is believed that the technology that the crime lord known as ‘Gerald’ used to control Mesu, among other drones, is related to that used by LFD to recreate the Central AI. The extent to which these organizations were linked is still not fully understood. But Mesu’s experience during that incident does support the benefits of the wireless ban imposed on emergent AI. Mesu was only controlled when a device was implanted on him and once removed it is believed he remained completely independent despite close proximity to the Central AI. This highlights the need to increase efforts to track down remaining AI units that disappeared after the war and remove their wireless CPU interfaces.
