2014 Here We Come

Published by Wayne on

Well, I’ve been pretty quiet here lately.  I took time off from writing on the blog a few months ago and never really picked it back up. I’d love to say I’ve been to busy writing. And while I have actually been working on a new project the last few months, it wouldn’t have prevented me from writing here if I’d made the effort.

I suppose I’m not really sure what the purpose of the blog is these days. I started it primarily as a place to just write random things. Then it became a marketing tool for my writing.  Over time it got muddled as things changed.

I started feeling less of a need to rant about my own ideas on the internet. That serves a purpose but the more I wrote the less worthwhile it seemed. Arguing over the internet about important real world issues doesn’t accomplish much. When you get down to it, does it matter at all if someone has an opinion that I disagree with or if I have an opinion you disagree with? I don’t think it should. What matters most is actions. My ranting is not an effective action.  Lately I’ve been thinking we’d all be a lot happier if we stop complaining about things we won’t actually take any action to remedy.

So while I still believe in the topics I’ve ranted about here, until such time as I actually get involved in some way in addressing the things I care about, that cuts out posts about politics or education. What does that leave to discuss?

For awhile, my need to talk about gaming was being met by writing for the GSA. That also led to my curtailing writing here about other things. The audience over there was much greater than here, which made those articles a better marketing tool than the blog.

Now, the GSA has since kind of petered out which means I may start writing about gaming again. Though at the moment, I don’t really have much to say. I’ve gotten into the X-Wings Miniatures game so might write some things about that.

But all in all, I don’t play nearly as much as I use too and am not really looking forward to that many upcoming games. I still play STO and then just a few single player games. Mostly Civ and FTL. I’m looking forward to Predestination, Repopulation, Infinite Space and a few other Kickstarter projects. Might be worth reviewing those. I’ll continue to post the summaries of my “Living on the Edge” Star Wars RPG campaign, as that serves a good summary for my group if nothing else.

In the end, with my more limited writing time, my reduced desire to prove any kind of political point here on the internet and my dismal failure at using the blog as an effective marketing tool for my books, I’m not really sure how to proceed.

Who knows what 2014 might have in store. I might become enamored with a particular topic. I might find more short story time to post here. I might continue to write nothing. We’ll see.

Happy News Years!
