Who the what now?

As I mentioned last week, I’ve started to watch Dr. Who out of geek peer pressure. Now that I’m actually giving it a chance, I’ve found I really enjoy it. Score one for crowd recommendations.

Some of the things that originally made me leery turn out to be the exact things that make it enjoyable. It’s very campy, silly and bizarre. But it embraces those things. It’s not trying to be a Serious Drama but manages to pull some good bits of drama off. It a cheap sci-fi show, without looking or feeling like a SyFy made for tv movie.

I started with the first season with David Tennant and I’m glad that I did. I watched two episodes with Eccelson, and while he wasn’t bad, Tennant seems to really embody the goofy quality that is the Doctor, without being stupid.

I’ve run across a few episodes that have been meh. I just watched “The Idiot’s Lantern” and found it just okay. But the previous three episodes, “The Girl in the Fireplace” and “Rise of the Cybermen” were very good. They managed to weave in some drama and character growth, while still being goofy and fun.

So I formally acknowledge all my friends and the internet were right. Now I have 60 some odd episodes to still watch. 🙂

It can be an acquired taste & not all Dr Who’s can cut it.
