To Fat to Run

Published by Wayne on

For the last year or so I’ve been running as part of my effort to lose some weight and get into a shape that is not round.  It’s gone reasonably well as I can now get through an entire 5k without stopping. I’m not fast, as it takes me almost an hour.

Unfortunately, this past weekend my foot developed tendonitis. After a run Sunday morning my foot hurt but not to unusual. As the day wore on it got worse, to the point that I couldn’t sleep at all Sunday night. After going to the doctor he identified the tendon damage and pointed out that due to my weight, running isn’t very good for me.

It’s kind of a sad conundrum. To overweight to run which I was doing to stop being overweight. Once my foot heals he recommended getting a bike and doing that instead. Aside from the expense of getting a bike, its not a bad option. I enjoyed bike riding as a kid.

Of course, that comes after getting healed. Which, unfortunately, will take a few weeks.  A damaged tendon really hurts. The pain drugs aren’t doing much to ease that. Unlike a sprained ankle or other injuries I’ve had, this one hurts no matter what I’m doing. Sitting, elevating, laying down, walking. It just constantly throbs.

And, of course, the baby just learned to walk so he’s all over the place now. So as I’m less mobile, the babies more.  We were enjoying walks down to the park to play every day (gave me an excuse to listen to Wheel of Time while he sat in the stroller).  Won’t do that for awhile.

Okay, enough bitching. Whine off.

I wish you a speedy recovery. Me dad did biking a few years ago and it was a great way that he lost weight.

Thanks Rabbit! I always enjoyed biking so it should be fun. Can even get a seat for the little one so I can do it during the day.
