Hello again everyone! Aristeia: A Little Rebellion has officially launched! If you’re lucky and go now, you might be able to pick it up for the tail end of the $0.99 sale before Amazon processes the price change.

Today will conclude the consecutive run of snippets from book. To find out what happens, well, you’ll just have to pick up the book. 😉

As they descended into the atmosphere, one of the suborbital passenger transports caught her attention. The vehicle suddenly changed course to an intercept vector with them. Before she could verify her initial assessment, she lost sensor data due to interference from reentry.

There could be any number of reasons for the transport to change course.  Maybe there was bad weather at their destination, or they were having mechanical difficulty, or their course was erratic because they were simply sightseeing instead of going someplace in particular. The sensors identified it as a simple passenger transport with no armament or even shielding. Yet something about it bothered her.

Saracasi increased power to the shields, from the minimal levels for flight to full combat strength. There was no harm in strengthening the shields, aside from the increased energy drain. She debated saying something to Maarkean but didn’t want to look foolish.

Immediately upon emerging from the reentry blind spot, she began looking for the transport. Her suspicions appeared to be confirmed when she couldn’t locate it. The ship had changed course again while they were blinded. It was now flying a parallel path with them, slightly above and behind them. The odds were still high that the ship had done this for purely innocent reasons, but she decided she couldn’t risk that anymore.

“Alter course,” Saracasi told Maarkean.

“What?”

“Evasive maneuvers, now!” she said more forcefully.

There’s still a chance to win free copies of Aristeia: A Little Rebellion, and several other books, enter the Contest. Simply make a comment to any blog post running until June 15, Tweet about the book with the hashtag #Aristeia

Sometimes, a little paranoia will keep you alive. Not too much, but just a little.

It pays to be careful.

Sure, it’s always just a simple transport until someone gets their eye poked out…. 🙂 nice action!

I always make sure to do a few ‘crazy-Ivans’ during re-entry – especially after the blind spot. Can’t be too careful.

I like Maarkean’s off-handed, “What?”

Such a guy–never paying attention…

Good scene, especially when the other ship suddenly paralleled their course!

Oh, exciting!!! They’ll be alright, I just know it. Great stuff!!

    Wayne · June 2, 2012 at 6:04 pm

    Will they? Muahahahaha!!

Sometimes paranoia–isn’t. (BTW, I’m here– http://jarnianconfederation.wordpress.com/ but I forgot to sign up.)

It’s always important to be paranoid…keeps you alive longer.

Wayne, sorry had problems posting here yesterday. I liked the set up and hints of characterizations via thought processes and that you’re setting up not only the pending danger from the ship but that there is some amount of conflict between him and her and her not wanting to look “foolish”.

Liana Brooks · June 3, 2012 at 10:20 pm

There’s nothing wrong with being paranoid.

Cassandra Davis · June 4, 2012 at 3:13 am

Just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean the universe isn’t out to kill you! But maybe the transport just wanted to read her bumper-sticker?

Angelia Almos · June 4, 2012 at 11:21 am

Better to be suspicious than dead.

Greaat build up, Wayne!
Maybe it’s just one of those intergalactic mobile libraries and he has a book over-due! They can be sticklers for tardiness! I was chased around the Horsehead Nebula by our local librarian. You just can’t shake the buggers off!
Or maybe it most probably isn’t and I digress.

Could also be student loan collectors.

Better a touch paranoid than a touch blasted. 😛
