Nerd World Problems
Wil Wheaton has a problem finding time to game. This is a problem I can sympathize with. I have several gaming groups in my life; An MMO guild, my online RPG group and my lifesize, real, in-person board gaming group. All have had difficulties in finding time to game.
The MMO group has been on a hiatus since 2009 when we left SWG. The RPG group was going strong almost every week for a good two years but recently died this last summer. SWTOR might revive the MMO group, which includes all the RPG friends.
Arguably, the hardest to coordinate is the board game group. We all live in the same area and you’d think could get together frequently. My wife and I are the only ones out of the group who are not in school or just finishing school at the moment. PhD’s apparently take a really long time to get. In addition to working on those, our friends also jobs, where as we just have jobs (mine being the most flexible one).
Then there is the whole business of life. You know, all that stuff that happens to eradicate your weekend right from under you. I imagine this time sink is going to increase dramatically when the kid arrives. None of this group of friends have kids, yet, so it will be some time before we can even use them as an excuse to get together.
Sometimes, despite the relative proximity, months will go by where we don’t see each other, much less get together to game. It really is a “nerd world problem” but an important one nonetheless. But I agree with Wil’s assessment. Gaming is important and it can be quite sad when your games start to collect dust from lack of use.
So I’ll mirror his sentiment, if you have some games sitting there unused, pull them down, call some friends and have some fun.

Yeah, finding time to get together is so hard. A lot of my RPG friends live over an hour away, which is hard to maintain a weekly game of sorts, plus factor in kids, family, and work schedules, it doesn’t happen too often. On the other side, I have a few that I play games with nearby, but this doesn’t happen nearly as often as it should.
