Ding! Level 31!

Published by Wayne on

Yesterday I hit level 31 in the game of Life, the biggest MMORPG on the planet. Life has a nice steady leveling curve compared to most other games. Reaching the level 31 took about the same amount of time as getting level 5. It’s really the difficulty setting that changes as you get higher level. From what I hear, after level 40 you start taking penalties to your Dexterity and Strength and after level 60 you even start losing skill points if you fail your Dementia saving throw.

This level I decided to cross train into another Prestige class; Parent. My last two levels had been in the Author Prestige class and it was a tough call not to do so again. There are some really useful Talents in that class. Fortunately, it relies heavily on Skill checks and I can still put some skill points there.

My character has a pretty crazy arrangement of classes as I am a multiclass junky. I’m currently Kid 5/Student 17/Husband 4/Teacher 1/Manager 1/Author 2/Parent 1 . All those early levels in Student really helped me beef up my range of skills. It’s allowed me to qualify for a lot of different Prestige classes, though that is part of the problem. I don’t stick with a class for long so can’t reach the really cool top end Talents.

Fortunately, there is some cross over. Both Parent and Husband share the “Family” talent tree, so the talents there are useful to both. The Student base class gave me a lot of points in the “Writing” skill, which is essential to the Author class. Almost every ability there requires progressively harder “Writing” skill checks.

The Manager and Teacher classes ended up being kind of dead ends but they weren’t complete losses. The “Think on Your Feet” talent from Teacher is useful with all classes. I only ever dropped that class because the developers kept nerfing the abilities and changing the completion requirements on their class quests. The Manager class was okay, I just didn’t like the guild I was in and didn’t want to try and find a new one.

With this new level in Parent, it should make the encounters with the boss level mob, “Fussy Baby” easier.  This mob is tough as it does tremendous damage to your morale and gives a debuff to the Patience skill checks. Fortunately, the class comes with a companion, “Happy Baby”, which provides a big heal to your morale.

The class quests are kind of a time sink, something I was warned about going in. Though I hear it allows access to some of the best encounters in the game. There is a lot of loot, though it’s mostly usable by your companion.

I’ll probably take a few more levels in Parent going forward, though I would like to get a few more in Author at some point. There are a lot of other classes that interest me, (Grandparent, Grumpy Old Man, Retiree, Millionaire) though I won’t be able to unlock those for at least 25 more levels and the entry requirements can be pretty tough (especially the Millionaire class).

Overall, Life is a fun game. I recommend you play it. It’s Free to Play so you just have to be careful you don’t spend to much in the Item Shop.
