Daylight Savings Time

Published by Wayne on

This weekend contained what use to be my most hated day; the start of Daylight Savings Time. Losing an hour of your weekend is always sad. However, this year, it was barely noticed. With a newborn, time has a way of distorting and losing all meaning. Since my wife is on leave from work, and I’m not writing currently, we don’t have a schedule. Hard to even know what day it is.

I do find the whole concept of Daylight Savings time odd. Why even bother? Sure, it being light late in the day is nice if you get off work late. Why not just schedule stuff an hour earlier? And we’re on it for so long now, it’s actually odd that we even switch off. Though, if we did that, we’d lose my favorite day of the year. A 25hr day on the weekend is awesome.

I think the rationale behind daylight savings time is that we’d get more daylight in the evenings to do other stuff or somesuch. Probably a relic from the pre-electrical light era.

But really, it makes little sense at all in this day and age. Especially where I live, where we get essentially 24 hours of daylight during the summer and just a few hours during the winter. For us, it’s just annoying. I hate it, and frequently completely forget to adjust my clocks to it. I usually only figure it out after my computer clock mysteriously having skipped or removed one hour.

24 hours of daytime?! That’s insane. I would die.

Well, it’s close to 24 hours daytime anyway. There is a dusk and a dawn, but it never gets dark.
