2013 Predictions

Published by Wayne on

Oh the new year. A time for reflection and speculation. What does 2013 have in store for us?

Games

Starting out on the shallow side of things, let’s look at the world of gaming. What am I looking forward to in 2013?

You’ll notice only one of those is an MMO.  I predict my time in STO will start to wind down and while I want to give Repopulation a shot, it will likely end up being to time intensive for my tastes these days. Games with no pause that require a lot of time, just outside my interest anymore.

Two game son that list are Indie 4x strategy games. I’d say it’s 50/50 odds that Predestination ships in 2013. Stardrive should be out in spring so it will likely see the light of day. Rebirth is also another question. It’s been pushed back a few times and is still only listed as “likely being released in 2013”. So we’ll see.

Geekery

The big release for 2013 is Star Trek Into Darkness and Iron Man 3. Both look like they’ll be really good. Though, Iron Man could run into curse of the third comic book movie slump. X-men and Spiderman all suffered from that as their third movies sucked. However, you could call the Avengers the third Iron Man movie, so maybe it’s been broken.

Other than that, no movies I can think of at the moment coming out that I have an interest in. Maybe Man of Steel. But Superman is a tricky prospect to do well.

Life

My life will continue to be dominated by being a parent. And this time of a toddler! That will be interesting.  We have walking and talking to look forward too. I mean that in a good way. Really I do.

We’ll probably try and take a trip to see my sister in the spring and my parents for Christmas. So lots more fun traveling to do.  Our ten year anniversary is coming up in 2014 so beyond visiting family we’ll be saving our vacation days and money for a big trip then. Hawaii, Europe, a cruise. Something cool.

Politics

*sigh* We still have a Republican controlled House. That wouldn’t be so bad if they were actual Republicans and not anti-government spoiled children. I have my problems with Democrats but they actually want to make things work.  The majority of Republicans aren’t even trying.

Gun control is going to be a big issue this year. I’m amazed at how divisive this is proving, just based on how people are talking about it on the internet. People opposed to the idea are really opposed to it. And they are armed.

The whole “fiscal cliff” is going to be a battle that will probably go nowhere. When one side refuses to negotiate, you don’t have a lot happening. There’s a pretty good chance we’ll slip into another recession. Because austerity measures worked so well for Europe, we want to do them here.

*sigh*

Writing

The big outlook for 2013 is the release of Tree of Liberty, the final book in this first Aristeia trilogy. It’s pretty exciting to have completed a trilogy of novels in such a short span of time. It will be cool to have all three books out and available at Comicpalooza this year, one year after the release of A Little Rebellion.

Unfortunately, that means I need to start working on another project. Can I write something else? Am I capable of writing something other than Aristeia? I think so. But will we have something ready for 2014? That’s the big question.

Happy New Year to you, sir.

The Dark Knight Rises did not suck, so I believe that the third superhero movie curse has been broken. It may have not been as good as the Dark Knight, but the Dark Knight is probably the only superhero movie that’s also one of the best movies of all time, and that’s a hard act to follow.

Star Trek Into Darkness looks great. No matter how many hardcore trekkies say that the 2009 reboot sucked, it was better than half of the rest of them.

I look forward to your next book!

You’re right Rabbit, Dark Knight Rises didn’t suck which may break that trilogy curse. It was a distant third for the trilogy, but unlike X-men 3 and Spiderman 3 it didn’t completely suck.
