Three Episodes In- Star Wars Resistance

Published by Wayne on

Our family is a big fan of Star Wars Rebels. I started watching it when my son was still quite young. He grew into it. And then my wife got into it too. By the end, watching new episodes was a family activity. The crew of the Ghost have replaced Han, Leia, and Luke in the hierarchy of Star Wars characters.

So when Star Wars Resistance was announced we were hopeful. Unfortunately, it hasn’t panned out as well. I’ve seen a lot of people panning Clone Wars or Rebels as being stupid kids shows. I don’t want to fall into that trap. We watched the first three episodes, and my kid liked it okay, but he has yet to ask to watch more. He’s six which seems the perfect demographic for it. But he’s showed no interest.

My problem with it is the main character. He’s an idiot and annoying. And yes, a lot of people said that about Ezra. I disagree with that assessment of Ezra but I could understand some of that perception.

However, Ezra was a 14-year-old boy who grew up alone.  Kaz, I think is his name, is a full grown adult who has presumably been through the New Republic military academy, given that he is a military X-Wing pilot at the start of the show. The fact that he is incompetent at everything is annoying.

That I think is the biggest flaw. The character plays like a dumb kid but isn’t supposed to be a kid. Ezra was a dumb kid sometimes but was actually a kid.

Now, admittedly, Rebels had some trouble in its first few episodes. I think they’re far better than Resistance but the kiddie vibe was turned way up early on. That faded with time. So there is a chance this will too. But currently, I’m not encouraged to keep watching.
