Skyrim Progress

Me: 3

Dragons: 0

But I’d really like to meet a friendly dragon, instead of just ones that want to eat me.

I made a dark elf character with the intentions of going full on fire wizard. After escaping from prison during a dragon attack (that’s totally unique for an Elder Scrolls game) I followed the main storyline for a time. Learned my first Shout and slew my first dragon. And was awarded a minion.

That was a feature I was not expecting in the game. Having a warrior servant follow me around is cool. Extra firepower is nice but the extra carrying capacity rocks. Though I wish you could tell how much they are carrying. I don’t know when her limit is close until she can’t carry more.

I haven’t figured out how tough she is either. At first, I thought she might be invincible. We fought a few dragons and she dropped to the ground looking injured, but never died. But then we went up against a dark wizard and she died in the fight. I went ahead and reloaded that one. Same thing when I accidentally angered here with an AOE fire spell making her attack me.

After gaining my companion, I went and joined the wizard college.  I read that you get a free room and I really needed to place to store stuff.  While heading off on one of their quests, I decided to take a “short” cut through the mountains. That’s where I found my second and third dragon. That was fun. Also met a giant who kicked my ass.

The dynamic quest system is cool. Just walking through town you overhear people talking and if you stop and talk to them you can normally get a quest. By chance, I stopped by a shop in the first town and got a quest to go retrieve a stolen item. By doing so, I learned my first Shout and found another item that would have been one of the main storyline quests. That’s really cool to be able to do things out of order. Though, troublesome if you ditch something like that.

Money is slow to come by since I’m not stealing stuff and I can’t advance some magic because I can’t afford spells in their categories. I’m avoiding grinding so far but the temptation is there. Getting some skills up would be nice. I’d like to get Soul Trap but have no Conjuration skills and it’s a 2nd tier spell.

The availability of learning all of the skills you want is cool. I can’t decide if I want to go full on mega wizard or armored war machine. The perks look cool, but also means I have to make choices. Not sure if I want to go full on smith and magical enchanter, or save the perks to boost magic and fighting skills.

Smithing is one of those things that sounds really cool, but I’m not sure about. Supposedly, you can mien ore out in the wild. But so far I have not. I have a pick axe. It’s entirely possible I’ve missed it, since things don’t have floaty names like in MMO’s. The main advantage to leveling smithing is improving armor and weapons though, and those don’t require as many resources.

Much more to explore in the world. But should probably get back to work today. Still have half a book to write.
