Ranking Things- Marvel Netflix Shows
I reviewed Daredevil Season 3 recently and wasn’t sure where I would rank it among the whole breadth of Marvel Netflix shows. So I decided I should figure that out. Here is how I ended up breaking things down.
- Daredevil- Season 1
- Jessica Jones- Season 1
- Daredevil- Season 3
- Punisher- Season 1
- Luke Cage- Season 1 (first half)
- Daredevil- Season 2
- Iron Fist- Season 2
- Jessica Jones- Season 2
- The Defenders
- Luke Cage- Season 1 (second half)
- Iron Fist- Season 1
- Luke Cage- Season 2 (first half)
I really liked the first half of Luke Cage S1. I want to watch the ending of Luke Cage S2. But there’s just too much to wade through to get there. The show didn’t know what to do with itself after Cottonmouth’s death. Mariah and Diamondback could not carry the load as villains. Season 2 started so slow and I just don’t feel like watching more.
Jessica Jones S1 was amazing. Gripping and had something to say. Season 2 felt muddied. Just like Daredevil S2 was. They floundered without their central villain. Though, Daredevils flaws in the second season had more to do with it being used to set up Defenders, rather than just let it be about the Punisher.
The biggest disappointment about the Netflix shows was the Defenders. They tried so hard to make it work that it ended up not working. Instead of taking four established characters and throwing them together for a new adventure, they jacked up Daredevil S2 and Iron Fist S1 to try for an entirely unnecessary build up.
Overall, some of these shows are great and worth a watch on their own. Others…might have been going somewhere. Iron Fist got pretty good by the end. The rumored Heroes for Hire combining Luke and Danny might have been good. Jessica Jone S3, if it is made, is worth a watch. Especially if it can follow in Daredevil’s footsteps of returning to form. Just don’t bring back David Tennant. He’s dead. Don’t cheapen that my unkilling him.
