Mask Orders

Published by Wayne on

I get it. You don’t want to wear a mask. I don’t either.

Masks aren’t comfortable. They won’t stay in place. After awhile they start to stink as they absorb your foul breathe. Who wants to smell that?

Seeing everyone wear a mask is a constant reminder of how much things have changed. Just a few months ago you could go out whenever you wanted, where ever you wanted, without worry.  Now stores are filled with people hiding their faces and avoiding each other. It’s disconcerting and the masks are the most visible example of these fundamental societal changes.

You don’t like being told what to do. I don’t either. Most people don’t. Why should the government, at any level, get to tell us how to live our lives? We’re grown ass adults and can make decisions for ourselves.

I understand all of these things. But I still wear the damn mask. Because it’s not about me. It’s about everyone around me. I am a grown ass adult and therefore I understand that my actions have consequences. Even when I can’t see them directly.

Not wearing a mask means I am putting other people at risk. The worker at the store who can’t decide to stay home because then they won’t be able to afford rent and their work can’t be done remotely. Or my family at home. If I pick it up, I bring it back to them.

This is a situation that can’t be solved by individuals working independently. We all live together here. We have to work together.
