Legends of Pegasus

A new 4x space strategy game came out last Friday that I had ordered called Legends of Pegasus. I had pre-ordered it based on some pre-release info I got from Space Sector and was looking forward to a new space based 4x game. I haven’t played a good one since Galactic Civilizations 2, and while that’s still good, I know the ins and outs so its lost some charm.

Well, it appears the game has a few problems.  Such that it is effectively unplayable. Check out the Steam forums or the comments on Space Sectors release announcement for the full out cry of bugs, but here’s a brief summary:

  1. Many crashes
  2. Terrible camera controls
  3. Skirmish mode (the free form core of 4x games) being hopelessly broken
  4. Campaign unbalanced
  5. Many of the things you can build not working

I have yet to install the game and at this point don’t think I will, at least in the immediate future. I’ll give them a few weeks to fix the problems and then check to see if it’s gotten better.

This situation is the first time I’ve ever bought a game and been burned by it. I’ve bought games I ended up not liking, but they all worked just fine. I’ve played MMO’s at launch, of course, they had their fair share of bugs. Despite people complaining that the MMO’s were not ready for launch and were just in beta, I never found anything that made them unplayable, just annoying.

And this includes STO, which was fairly crappy at launch. It was definitely a rushed release and not very good. But most things worked and you could play. Legends of Pegasus doesn’t sound like its even at that level.

Now, granted I have not actually tried this game for myself so it probably is not as bad as the internet says. Things never are. But the complaints are consistent and wide spread enough that I believe it’s in bad enough shape that it’s not worth trying out right away.

Hopefully Novacore get’s its act together and I can give it a try in a few weeks.
