Football Shuffle

I enjoy watching college football games, primarily the Florida Gators.  But the constant shuffle of coaches between schools is a little crazy. As is the switching of schools to different conferences.

All through my junior, senior high school years and my older sisters time at Florida, there was just Steve Spurrier. He left after my sophomore year to be replaced by Zook for just 2 years. Then came in Urban Meyer. I like Urban as a coach. He seemed confident, calm, and handled the team well. Never liked Spurrier all that much, just seems like an ass.

Now we have Muschamp, who because we had a bad season I wouldn’t be surprise if he got fired after next year just like Zook. Which I think is unreasonable. A coach needs a solid few years to build up a team and reputation. Can’t blame him for a poor season when most of the team was recruited by someone else, don’t know you and lost a coach they liked. And now Urban’s at Ohio.

You can’t really blame the other coaches. Our Offensive Coordinator, Charlie Weis is moving to head up Kansas and the year before like Charlie Strong left for Louisville. They are moving up in the coaching hierarchy. But head coaches?

My Dad’s alma mater, Virginia Tech, has had the same head coach for most of my life.  Bobby Bowden was at FSU for 33 years. But then, I guess you also get situations like Joe Paterno and Penn State….

But, anyways, I wish they would make college football less like a business. Keep coaches for longer. Lose some of the money floating around, add a play-off system. Would make the whole thing more fun.
