Not much is known about the individual who calls herself Serene. What is known suggests that is unlikely to be her birth name. What is known is that she is from the Messite sect, a group of Echanic who abhor her species broad adoption of cybernetic upgrades. Blinded as a child, she choose to get cybernetic eye replacements to allow her to see and was shunned by her people. It is easy to see a path from there leading to her life of crime.
She has been linked to a wide variety of criminal activity not limited to piracy, larceny, embezzlement, and petty theft. She was known to be linked to the crime lord known as ‘Gerald’ though reports suggest she worked for him under duress. It was during her tenure with this organization that she somehow came into contact with the crew of the transport ship Seraph. How she came to become a member of their crew is unknown, though a romantic history with their now deceased crew member Noah Ramirez is suspected.

Classified reports suggest Serene was responsible for ending the life of Jackson Mitchell, the leader of Live Free or Die that attempted to bring about a new AI war. While this would technically murder, and the reports are substantiated from a few witnesses, there is no interest in pursuing charges. As part of their deal with PUG authorities, the crew of Seraph had all of their criminal records expunged, hence why Serene is now only listed as suspected of being linked to criminal activity. If the rumors of Seraph‘s involved with a prison breakout on the Rokma planet of Lolia are true, she no doubt played an important role.
