Old Man Rants
I have a couple things to rant about today. Because I’m a grumpy old man.
First off, I went to my local grocery store earlier this week and the shopping center was decorated for Christmas. I’m not talking about displays of holiday goods, decorations or potential presents. I’m talking wreaths on the posts, greenery and colored balls on the signs, full out Christmas regalia. It was the day after Halloween.
Its annoying, but on some level I can understand displays in stores. They sell stuff and some people like to shop early. Fine. But decorating a shopping center two months ahead of time? WTF? Seriously, who wants to see Christmas decorations for two months?
I like Christmas and all. Its a time to see family and give presents, its fun. But stuff like this makes me hate it. I also like Christmas music. But even when you only hear it from Thanksgiving to Christmas, the songs get old. But when they start playing it before Thanksgiving? Ugh. It hasn’t happened yet this year but you know it will.
Daylight Savings Time ended this weekend. In the past, remembering this was important. You had to reset all of your clocks manually. But nowadays with a good fraction of people using their phones, computers or other electronics that automatically adjust themselves, its becoming a thing that just happens. Except when your device does it wrong.
Both my and my wife’s phones set themselves back two hours. The baby got up at 630am, thinking it was 730, which our old-timey alarm clocks said it was, but our phones thought it was 530am. Fortunately, a reboot fixed the problem because I couldn’t find a way to easily change the time.
While we’re ranting, the election is finally tomorrow. I’ve gotten so many political emails it’s crazy. I’m hoping that will finally end. So go vote tomorrow if you haven’t already. End this madness.
